The French Side Of Disco

I just Love this guy.
Claude François sings for his roots, thats why he used this specific theme for this song.
"Alexandrie, Alexandra" was a big hit in 1978, but Claude wasnt lucky enough to enjoy it.

Jet aime Claude, you are the man!

Digging Through The 80's. No 2.

"First Boy In This Town (Lovesick)" is a happy 80's classic, in terms of sound and style.

The song and the band ("Scritti Politti") belong to the mainstream side of the decade.

You will find it in the "Provision" album (1988 -  reaching #8 in the UK)

Bonus Info: A track in the same album called "Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry for Loverboy)" features Miles Davis on trumpet (he went on to play "Perfect Way" from Cupid & Psyche 85 at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 1988)

Digging Through The 80's

Level 42 wasnt "The Best" pop group at the time, but this isnt neccessarily bad,
isnt it?
Something About You is a single tha was released in 1985. The song was written by Mark King, Mike Lindup, Phil Gould, Boon Gould and Wally Badarou.

For all of you who have lived the 80's, this song might ring a bell somewhere inside your head.

I hope it brings nice memories.

White SouL

"Lowdown" is a Billboard hit originally recorded in 1976 by Boz Scaggs for his mainstream-breakthrough album, Silk Degrees.
The song was co-written by Scaggs and David Paich.
Paich, along with fellow "Lowdown" session musicians David Hungate and Jeff Porcaro, would later help form the band Toto.
The song's production, as well as Scaggs' laid-back vocal, gave "Lowdown" a smooth, Soul/Disco feel.
Got to love it!

We Love PauL

This song could fit anywhere, it brings joy and possitive vibes since you hear this flamenco guitar brake.
"Goodnight Tonight" is a Wings' disco-inflected single which confirms McCartney's ability to compose almost any kind of music with great sucess. In addition, Macca is giving a great bass performance which is dominating in the whole song!
It began as an instrumental backing track McCartney had recorded in 1978. Needing a single for Wings to accompany the Back to the Egg album, McCartney took out the track and brought it into the studio, where the full Wings lineup completed it.
Sir Paul, we thank you once more

"Dooo..."

When Poetry Meets Coolness

Not many words on this one cause Gil Scott-Heron will do all the talking.
All i know is that for some reason, this sounds very updated.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song, recorded in 1971 from the man mentioned above.

" I Dig it Brotha"

In 2010, the New Statesman listed it as one of the “Top 20 Political Songs”

My Disco Princess

If Donna Summer has to be the queen of Disco, this lady here must be considered as the Disco Princess.
Ramona Brooks is an underrated female Soul-Disco artist.
Gathering info about her in the net, wasnt easy but we know that in 1980, she released this fantastic song called "I dont want you back" (maybe she was reffering to those who never show her the respect she deserved) and she managed to capture the disco spirit with a funky attitude in one track.
Because:
Got to love the bass solo in the middle, the violins and ofcourse the completly unknown percussionist ...
